SPECIAL FOOD REVIEW EDITION!
We will be featuring various dishes and meals from a recent trip to Boracay Island, a world-famous beach island that one should try going to at least once in their lifetime, whether you are a Filipino or not. In this edition, we will be featuring more than the usual number of dishes that showcases the diversity of food available within the island.
These are not categorized by the type of restaurant or even the price range, but rather randomized based on merely what was available at any given time. They are judged by the following numbers:
They are then judged with the following criteria:
Now on to the dishes…
Location: Paraiso Lobster House Bar and Grill
Food: Baked Prawns
Sides: None
Drink: None
Cheesy and tasty prawns
Summary:
The size of the prawns are enormous and it looks so enticing even while you’re just looking at it and it really looks delicious enough. The baking quality is good enough for a good bite while the cheese (though not originally on the menu) spread so well on the meat. While it is understandable that sea foods has the tendency to be expensive, spending a thousand for such serving may be too much to the point of getting into that so-called “tourist price”.
Verdict:
Location: Percy Seafood
Food: Calamari and Chips
Sides: None
Drink: None
A little too salty but a great appetizer
Summary:
There are a lot of chips and a lesser calamari so that you are all aware (understandable of course). The Calamari is tender enough and not chewy while the breading and batter are tasty enough and can be regarded as a viable snack or appetizer. Just a little bit too salty though but this can still be adjusted.
Verdict:
Location: Diavolo
Food: Porchetta Pizza
Sides: None
Drink: None
Amazingly great pork topping!!!
Summary:
Disclaimer: This is a must try! Just want to emphasize that right at the start. The Porchetta (roasted pork rendition) is something that you would want to try as a separate dish because it actually stands out from all the pizza ingredients. The dough is quite soft and very nice for a good bite and all the other ingredients well complements the whole meal including the meat leaves – it is totally a great experience! And considering this is supposedly can be shared to others, it felt as if one can finish this all.
Verdict:
Location: The Sunny Side Cafe
Food: Kitayama Beef Tapsilog
Sides: None
Drink: None
Tender and tasty beef chunks that you will enjoy
Summary:
What stands out from this dish is the portions – it is enormous! Quite possibly this is intended for bigger-framed people, but for smaller ones this could be regarded as good for sharing. The beef cubes (this is the sweet type of Tapa) are so tender it almost as if it can be separated easily by just a quick use of spoon and fork. The two-egg serving might be too much for some who are managing their portions but this should be fine.
Verdict:
Location: Tres Amigos
Food: Chicken Burrito
Sides: None
Drink: None
So good! Nuffsaid!
Summary:
Not sure how to score this dish if it is the beef variant but this chicken version is absolutely fantastic! The play on all the ingredients rolled into one is a bliss on every bite. The rice is soft while the chicken bits will give you quite a wild ride. There is a good spicy kick on every bite and you will surely enjoy every bit of it until you finish it off every single bite.
Verdict:
Boracay has a lot of things to offer nowadays apart from the sun, sea and sand. It is also a haven for good food and be sure to include food adventure into your itinerary on your trip to this wonderful island. As we always emphasize, trying out the dishes we feature here in actual is still the best thing.
