Not Your Usual Food Review: Watami

As we look for a quick fix of our Jap craving, we came across at Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant and it felt like we’re going to be having fun trying out their dishes.

Watami has a wide range of choices on their menu including some side dishes that we haven’t really seen on other Japanese restaurants. With that being said, we definitely felt the excitement in trying out some of their dishes and we will feature them in this food review.

Scallops Poppers

This is one side dish that’s probably we haven’t seen (or tried) on other Japanese restaurants and Watami’s version is something to look forward to. The crunch on the breading plus the tender meat of the scallops are a great combination. Originally, this is served with the spicy sauce smothered but we requested to be separated so a result was a great and a little bit customized side dish all throughout.

Pork Katsu Curry Rice Set

All throughout the series of our food reviews, it is almost a staple that we feature a Katsu-Curry dish whenever we are trying out a Japanese themed restaurant. With Watami’s version, it has well-blended Curry sauce that will make you keep dipping into on each bite of the tender meat. Oh, we haven’t talked about the sides! The bean sprouts will give you the needed saltiness to neutralize the flavors, the potato salad gives the creamy kick, while the mochi gives sweets. All in all, this is a fun meal set that you would want to try.

Pork Katsudon and Green Tea Soba Set

If you go for the sweeter side of Donburi (Rice Bowl), you can easily go for a Pork Katsudon and this set from Watami. The breading is soaked on the juicy and sweet sauce and the egg provides that creamy taste as well. As with the sides, the Green Tea Soba will give you the warming feeling and an added carbo to load you up further. The potato salad and the mochi tastes the same as with the Katsu Curry set and that goes to show their work with consistency.

Not So Casual in the Taste

While Watami firmly note that they’re a casual Japanese Restaurant, the taste on the dished we tried in this food review seems not so. They’re all definitely enjoyable and are worth visiting again.
