Eilean Donan Castle
Situated at a small island where the three great lochs of Scotland meet, Eilian Donan castle is one of the most iconic castles in the United Kingdom. It is even one of the favorite movie settings where notable movies such as The Highlander and a James Bond movie was shot in here.
Getting to this castle is a very scenic drive with full of twists and turns that are adorned by great mountain landscapes in between. Long walks are needed to get good compositions in taking great images of this great castle.
Dunnotar Castle
Getting to this castle is a little bit tricky considering it sits at the edge of the Northern part of Scotland so a long drive should be expected. A short hike will give you great and stunning views of the castle from afar. Nevertheless, all these are definitely worth it.
Corfe Castle
Looking on the ruins of this castle would make you wonder how difficult it must be for the workers who built this castle because it literally sits on top of a steep hill. Its iconic reputation apart from its location is that it survived mightily during the English civil war – and its ruins are the preserved memory of what it was like back then.
Going to this will be tricky as you have to drive into a small village and you cannot drive into a place where you can have a great view of the castle such as on this picture. You have to hike around 20 minutes uphill with moderate steepness. The reward – a stunning view of the ruins, not minding the wet and very cold and windy early morning to catch (hopefully) the sunrise beaming into the castle.
Windsor Castle
The official residence of Queen Elizabeth and the Royal family, it is the largest and oldest occupied castle in the whole world.
Looking at these majestic structures is truly a great experience. Getting there is a challenge, so it adds up to to a greater feeling in the end.
