They say Street Food is an informal cuisine and is regarded to be on a different food genre. Having a Michelin star, a prestigious recognition of food excellence that is merely present (if not at all) in Street Food brands – until Hawker Chan smashed that stereotype. We’re very happy we have an opportunity to feature their signature dishes in this food review.
Boasting its origins in Singapore, Hawker Chan is a typical street food shop, moreso known as Hawker shops that they’re naturally called in their country of origin. Gaining their reputation that they’re in right now required lots of years of food perfection and keeping its consistency was a tough task. And here they are, banging all doors of any country to venture into new horizons and wait for them to be accepted. True enough, we embraced them and has finally put up a branch here locally and we’re so glad we can try them out here. We will feature some of their dishes as well as their signature dish which they are actually known for and even earned the star. Read on to find out how did they fare on our food review.
Soya Sauce Chicken Rice
We will not pass up the opportunity of trying out the Signature dish of a Michelin-star restaurant as if it is an automatic feature no matter what. The chicken itself is enticing enough on its appearance because of its really reddish roasted color. The chicken meat is very much tender and its distinct taste is something that you would want to try again and again.
The soy sauce on the rice as a topping won’t hurt you on the salty taste as it was spreaded out evenly. Over-all it is definitely a cheap dish that boasts of its reputation.

Soya Sauce Chicken Noodle
The chicken is the same with the rice meal on this one, its main difference is just the noodle. We can’t say anything more about the chicken, but pairing it with noodles would be a different experience. We’re not actually used to this pair (not this much chicken to be exact) but trying this one wouldn’t hurt. In fact, you’ll equally be satisfied with this one actually. The noodles are juicy enough for you to munch on with one go then pair it up with the a bite on the chicken is really a great experience.

Roast Combination Platter with Dumplings
This combination platter provides a sampler (or even an actual dish for a small family) of each of their signature dishes. It comprises of the soya sauce chicken (strategically placed in the middle), the Char Siew, the Roast Pork, the fried dumplings, and the Tofu dumplings.
As mentioned on the previous dishes, the soya sauce chicken is a great tasting treat. And its consistency is something notable too.
The Char Siew is as expected on the sweet side and its tenderness makes it satisfying on every bite.
The Roast Pork is something that we would also want to try individually as well. It looks plain at first, but when you taste it, it has that distinct taste that gives satisfaction and will entice you to munch on a spoonful of rice or two (or even three).
The dumplings are a surefire appetizers the complements well with the other dishes on this platter.
Over-all, this is a platter that will be consumed in a matter of minutes by the whole family.

Truly-deserved Star
Though recently Hawker Chan lost its Michelin-star, it didn’t budge them at all in bringing in one of the best chicken rice – and a cheap one at that too. You should try them out soon, you’ll surely have a fun time!
