We have featured and conducted a food review to quite a number of Japanese-themed restaurants and we still feel that it isn’t enough thus we keep on featuring more similar restaurants / food shops. We simply can’t get enough of them. And here we are again, making another food review of another Japanese restaurant – Tenya.

Tenya traces its roots in Japan (of course) specifically in Tokyo. Back in the 80s, while a lot of food shops / restaurants in Japan offer the same dish (the Tendon aka Tempura Rice Bowl). Tenya offered the same dish at 1/3 of the price of its competitors without compromising anything. This in turn paved the way to its reputation and eventually grown to venture further and branch out even to other countries. And we’re definitely happy for that as we can experience Tenya even without going to Japan.

We realized the great reputation and rich history of this restaurant, and now we’re excited even more in getting on with this food review.

Classic Tempura Set

This is a no-brainer in checking this one out for a food review since this is what they are known and reputable for. And true enough, it did not disappoint. The prawns used on the tempura are big enough to look big, and each bite will give you the crunch, but still has the meat all over. The vegetable tempura is also enjoyable too. This bento set is true to the restaurant’s reputation and we’re happy we chose this on our visit.

GYO! Ramen Set

Turning on the “Japanese” mode is almost always eating Ramen and we will not pass up the opportunity to try out one of Tenya’s Ramen offerings. The soup broth is very tasty and somewhat creamy which is enjoyable up until the last sip. The noodles are well cooked and the other ingredients provide the needed punch – the saltiness, the crunch, and the spice too. All in all, it is a very enjoyable dish that is perfect to keep you warm (and full) on rainy weather but can still be a viable and delicious dish otherwise.

Salmon Tempura

We probably wanted everything that has Tenya’s tempura batter that is why we ordered this side dish. Nevertheless, it did not disappoint us because it has that distinct tempura taste and topped with the tasty Salmon meat. You bet you can order a cup of rice as a topping for this one.

Affordable and enjoyable taste

What probably Tenya gained its reputation over the years (decades in fact) is that they do not compromise taste and quality of their dishes despite offering it at a much affordable price when compared with the others. We experienced that firsthand on our recent visit and we’re definitely visiting again to try more of their dishes soon.
